Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was a German expressionist painter and also woodblock printer. He is known for rejecting academic styles and was inspired by the modern city. In the 1930's he was a victim of the Nazi's degenerate art campaign. Kirchner studied architecture at the Dresden Technical High School in 1901. Kirchner challenged classic motifs of the past and the present avant-garde. I personally absolutely love Kirchner's work, I find his use of color with bold imagery very inspiring, and you're really able to tell his emotions through his work. Kirchner joined the military in 1915 until he was shortly released due to a nervous breakdown. On July 15, 1938 Kirchner committed suicide due to the trauma of the Nazi's forcing him to resign from the Berlin Academy of Arts, where 600 of his works were then destroyed.
