Sangduck Kim

Sangduck Kim is a contemporary artist from South Korea. Their work includes factors of surrealism and impressionism, they use color and shape to give their pieces form. I chose this artist because their work really stood out to me. With use of heavy brushstrokes in some of the pieces with vibrant color, to very small exact brush strokes with dull coloring. Each piece is very interesting to look at and for your eye to wonder throughout each detail. Kim mainly uses oil paint on canvas to create these strange pieces. Some of the paintings are very realistic but with paint dripping and smeared on the main subject, this creates confusion by not knowing what is hidden underneath the dripping paint. I really like the use of colors with the mustard yellow and soft pink with hints of deep red, all combined work very well with each other. No two pieces are the same and each one is unique and individual in their own way.
